On May 28th, we will
look back at the final game played at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. It was an
afternoon affair between the Blue Jays and the Chicago White Sox in 1989.
Exhibition Stadium was a football stadium with seating added in the
mid-1970s to accommodate baseball. The Jays played their home games there from
their inception in 1977 until the end of May in 1989.
While the Stadium was—for lack of a better expression—garbage, it does
hold a special place in the hearts of Blue Jays’ fans who were fortunate enough
to witness the team from their infancy to their rise to contention in the
mid-1980s. Exhibition Stadium saw the ground work laid for the World Series
Championship teams that would come along in the early 1990s.
At Top Of The Third, we would like to ask for your help. We are
interested in hearing your memories of attending a game at Exhibition Stadium.
Whether it be your first game, a heart-breaking loss, an exhilarating
extra-inning victory, or your final game there. Please make it approximately
two paragraphs long and email it to topofthethird@gmail.com.
The final week of May, we will try to publish all submissions so you
can share in the memories we all have of the Blue Jays’ first home.
