This Day In Blue Jays' History: March 11, 1977

It was on this date in 1977 that the Toronto Blue Jays fielded a team in a Major League Baseball game for the first time. In a Spring Training game in Dunedin, Florida—the site of the Jays’ Spring Training for the entirety of its existence—the Blue Jays defeated the New York Mets by a score of 3-1.
Later in the Grapefruit League schedule, the Jays would defeat their Canadian rivals, the Montreal Expos, the first two times they played them. Also during the Spring, Toronto would defeat the two-time defending World Series Champions, the Cincinnati Reds.
By the time the exhibition schedule ended, Toronto would have their first 25-man roster was set, with the most recognizable names being Ron Fairly (he had played for the Expos) and pitcher Bill Singer, who would be the Opening Day starter.
