This Day In Baseball History: August 14, 1998

August 14, 1998

On this day in 1998, at Tiger Stadium in Detroit, Oakland Athletics outfielder Rickey Henderson becomes the oldest player in Major League history—at the age of 39—to steal 50 bases in one season. It was the fourteenth time (and would be the last time) in his career that Henderson stole at least 50 bases in one season. He would end the season with 66 thefts, leading the Major Leagues.

Unfortunately for the A’s, the Tigers won the game 13-4.
