This Day In Blue Jays' History: April 10, 1990

It was on this day in 1990 that George H. W. Bush became the first President of the United States to throw out a ceremonial first pitch outside the United States. He was joined by Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney as guests of the Toronto Blue Jays for their home opener against the Texas Rangers at SkyDome. The President’s son, George W. Bush (who would also later become President of the United States) was a part-owner of the Rangers.
The Jays won the game 2-1, with pitcher Dave Stieb picking up the victory while left-handed reliever David Wells earned the save. Toronto’s runs both came in the bottom of the fifth when, with one out, outfielder Junior Felix doubled, shortstop Tony Fernandez tripled scoring Felix, and outfielder Mookie Wilson singled, scoring Fernandez.
The Rangers only run came on a Ruben Sierra solo home run leading off the top of the ninth.
