This Day In Blue Jays' History: April 7, 1977

This Day in Blue Jays’ History: April 7th, 1977

It was on this date in 1977 that the Toronto Blue Jays played their first game in franchise history. It was played at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto (pretty much where BMO Field stands today) and a snow-covered field greeted the fans and players for Opening Day.
Toronto’s opponent was the Chicago White Sox and Canadian-born folk-singer Anne Murray sang the Canadian national anthem.
As was the case with George Bell’s three-home run game, I will not discuss much of this game as it, too, will be featured later in the season as part of our Blue Jays’ Top 25 Games in franchise history.
