This Day In Baseball History: September 9, 2010

September 9, 2010

It was on this day in 2010 that Seattle Mariners’ right fielder, Ichiro Suzuki, became the first player in Major League Baseball history with ten consecutive season of 200 or more base hits when he singled in the fifth inning at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. The Blue Jays won the game 1-0.
Ichiro started his MLB career in 2001 at the age of 27. Still in the Majors, with the Miami Marlins, he has (prior to Tuesday night’s game) collected 2927 hits in his career. A case can be made that if Ichiro had started his professional career in MLB rather than in Japan, he could have made a run at Pete Rose’s all-time hits record of 4256.
